Michaela started swing dancing in 2011. She still remembers her first class (Tandem Charleston) and couldn’t get enough of it so she stayed and just watched for the rest of the night, totally enamoured with this dance. Her earliest thoughts included ‘how do they know what to do next?’ and ‘how do they do that twisty knees thing?’ (swivels). She was hooked and has not looked back since.
Michaela has performed as part of various lindy hop and solo jazz dance troupes including the Skyliners, the Dinahs and the Hotfoot Strutters. She performed in the swing dance show ‘Make a Song and Dance’ with the Vintage Swing Collective in 2018. She currently teaches weekly partner and solo dance classes in London for Swing Patrol and also runs two dance troupes – the Skyliners and Club Stomp. She has competed around the world and been lucky enough to place a few of those times – she is especially proud of the choreography she co-produced that scored first places across the board for the Team Routine at Savoy Cup 2017 with the Skyliners.
Swing dancing offers many dynamic and exciting moments – dancing with different partners, creativity through improvisation as well as choreography, and through delving deeper into the music and dance history. With her classes she hopes to open the door to some of these ideas and help her students discover their own swing dance adventures.
